Higher than ever before.
We set off at 3,200 meters. In the early morning, silence and concentration hang over the drive to the starting point. The guide shows us our goal for the day: 5,600 meters above sea level. Shortly after, we reach the starting point. A couple from Brazil and the two of us – together, we set off on our way.
Step by step, very slowly, we follow our guide. Respect grows, our breath gets shorter, and time and again we take a short rest. With very small steps, we continue toward the summit.
Once at the top – we barely exchanged a word along the way. The tension gives way, making room for pure exhilaration. It is one of the most beautiful experiences we have ever had: a breathtaking view, right in the middle of the Andes.
